Ergonomic Workstation Guidelines
Introduction
Ergonomics is a scientific discipline, which is concerned with the productivity, health, safety and comfort of people, as well as promoting effective interaction between people, technology they are using and the environment in which both must operate.
Responsibility
Departments are encouraged to purchase adjustable equipment for the reasonable accommodation of users...
Ergonomic evaluations shall be conducted by Arrow Solutions, LLC. Additional information may be obtained by calling

Design
Design objectives should support humans to achieve the operational objectives for which they are responsible. There are three goals to consider in human-centered design:
1. Enhance human abilities
2. Overcome human limitations
3. Foster user acceptance

To achieve these objectives, there are several key elements of ergonomics in the office to consider:
1. Equipment: video display terminals
2. Software design: system design
3. Workstation design: height, Leg room, work surfaces and thickness

4. Environment: space planning, air quality, lighting, and thermal factors
5.Training: preparing workers to deal with technology
Industrial Workstation Design
1. Height: The height depends upon the user of a workstation and other factors that interact with the user and table. Readily made height adjustments may be needed to accommodate several different users.
2. Leg room: Knee space should allow a worker to feel uncrowded and to allow some changes of position, both lateral and vertical.
3. Top: The top should be spacious enough to allow for all materials desired & handle any process loads of the workstation.
4. Thickness: The thickness of the work surface depends on the user, job objectives, and the material purchased.

5. Tools Used: Heavy and repetitive use tools can be assisted from above or below as needed.
6. Lighting & Magnification: Lights- fixed or readily moveable and wattage as needed. Magnification- with lights, if needed, of necessary diopter lens strength for the application.
7. Work piece fixturing: Heavier work items can be manipulated in fixtures manually with hydraulics to create satisfying ergonomic conditions.
